If you are interested in a Firestarter event in your area, please feel free to use the form below for your request.

Below is the registration form to sign up for the Pittsburgh Firestarter event, to be held from 10:00am to 3:30pm on December 16th, 2009. Registration will start at 9:30am.

A Firestarter event is a deep dive, Launch event intended to give attendees an overview of what is new with Server 2008 R2.  This event will be primarily focused on demonstrating key features in the hopes that, once you see how it's done, it will be easier for you to adopt and implement these features yourself. Thus making this upgrade well worth the investment.

Demonstrations include:

Space is somewhat limited, so please register as soon as possible to be certain you get a seat. There will be coffee and munchies (Panera Bread) provided.  Giveaways for attendees will be available.

The event location will be at the downtown Microsoft Office:

30 Isabella St., Second Floor
Alcoa Business Services Center
Pittsburgh, PA 15212

The downtown office, unfortunately, has no free parking (it is downtown after all), but there are a number of parking garages near the location (one is especially convenient behind the Alcoa building itself).  Feel free to click the link above to give them a call or get directions.

For those visiting from out of town:

The Microsoft offices are located on the North Side of the city.  Hotels are available in the area, but due to the fact that the location is downtown, there are no economy lodgings.  The closest hotel (as in walking distance from the event location) to the Microsoft Offices are the SpringHill Suites.  For a suggestion of a relatively close, less expensive hotel, there is the Priory Hotel. Renovated from a hostel for traveling Benedictine monks, the rooms vary quite a bit, and the place is considered a bed & breakfast.  Driving to the event location from the The Priory is suggested, as the hotel is not considered a good choice for walking.

Feel free to contact the hotels directly for specials and (possibly) better rates than those listed at their sites.  Anyone who knows of a good hotel for this event that is not listed at the link below, please contact cacallahan on twitter, and the hotel will be gratefully added as an option for attendees.  There are also numerous restaurants near the the event location, so food should not be an issue.

Click here for a list of nearby hotels (compliments of google maps)

Directions from the airport to the Microsoft Offices.

This event is a volunteer venture driven by the MVP presenter, CA Callahan, as a community service.
